Handmade Cards

Butterfly Birthday Wish

When I started to design this card, I had planned to follow a challenge sketch. I’d chosen the paper, die cut the butterflies, and cut a card base to size. However, once I’d attached the pretty patterned paper to the card base, in my head I could see a completely different design to the one I had planned.

I love how designs can evolve and change as you go along. It can be fun to follow your ideas, rather than always stick to an original plan.

The vellum panel is a perfect way to add a large sentiment, without taking over the card.

How I made this card:

Using papers from a paper pack is an easy way to coordinate your card easily. I attached the pretty patterned paper to a light blue card base, leaving a strip along one edge so the card base is visible. The butterflies are die cut from plain coloured paper from the same paper pack as the background piece.

I added Wink of Stella glitter to the butterflies and layered them together. The sentiment is heat embossed with white embossing powder on to the vellum paper.

The vellum is attached to the card behind the butterfly and also with glue behind the sentiment. I then finished the card with some sequins.
