Mother’s Day Crafting with Children

I babysat my two young nieces recently, and I took the opportunity to help them make a Mothers Day card for their mum.

Both are under 4 years old, so their input can only be limited at the moment, but they enjoyed helping me. I want to share my love of papercrafts with them and to introduce them to the joy of making cards for others.

My eldest niece helped me the most. She chose two cats from the MFT Cool Cats stamp set, and we used the Mini Misti to stamp the images. They coloured a cat in each with colouring pencils, then I fussy cut them out.

Next, my eldest niece helped me to die cut a Lawn Fawn stitched square and the MFT circle peekaboo window from it. She enjoyed turning the handle on the die cutting machine, with a little help from me when it got difficult.

The next step was definitely her favourite – making the shaker element! I showed her different shaker sequin packs that I own, and she chose her favourite. She chose the MFT patterned paper to go behind and die cut it with my help.

We used a shaker pouch from MFT to make life easier. I used double sided tape to add the pouch to the peekaboo window. She then added the sequins into the pouch. I added more double sided tape, then we stuck down the patterned paper circle to the back. She was so excited to see what she’d created and loved shaking it!

At this point, her attention span had run out and it was time for dinner. After she’d gone to bed, I finished the card. I added the shaker to a square card base. I stamped a sentiment from the Paper Smooches Precious Mom stamp set, then cut it into a Lawn Fawn banner.

I added the cats and the banner, then finished the card with a few pink glitter die cut hearts.

I’m sure they will be excited to give their mum the card today.
