Handmade Cards

Inspired by Pinterest #1

I really love Pinterest for card inspiration. I have many boards for different types of cards, and also boards for the stamps and dies that I own.

I think it’s important to try and use what supplies you have. As much as I’d love to own everything that I see others using, I don’t have the budget or the space. It’s also good to make something your own – to put your own spin on it. My ‘Inspired by Pinterest’ posts will be based on cards I like – my version of it, created with my own supplies.

I saw this fabulous card by Melania Deasy, who designs for MFT. I just had to have a go at making one myself, using distress inks and the Lawn Fawn party balloon dies.

I don’t have the tools to emboss at the moment (on my wish list), so instead I used a large sentiment from the MFT Birthday Greetings Stamps. I originally tried stamping on the watercolour paper but it didn’t work very well. I’m not sure why, maybe the background was still slightly damp. So I covered it with a die cut tag showing the sentiment instead. The balloons have some glitter added to them.

I made female and male versions of the card. It also gave me another chance to compare my two cardstocks. The left hand side is made using the Bassill cardstock (A2 notecard size) and the one on the right is made using the Papercutz cardstock (A6). The envelope is made from Papermania 160gsm paper.

Products used to make these cards:

  • Lawn Fawn – Party Balloons die set
  • MFT Birthday Greetings Stamp
  • Distress inks
  • Wink of Stella glitter brush pen
