Train Easel Card

I always try to create special birthday cards for my nieces and nephew, that I know they’ll love. For my niece’s 2nd birthday, I made an easel card featuring her favourite train.

I began by using a circle die and partially cutting it to create the easel card base.

To build the train, I used rectangle and circle dies, adding colour with MFT inks. I added the same blue to the circle easel part of the card, so it matched. I cut some grassy hills and added green ink, sticking those either side of the train.

For the face, I added googly eyes. I decided to draw on the smile as I couldn’t find anything that worked as well.

Inside the card, I cut strips of brown card, layering them up to add thickness, to make the track. This allows the easel card to stand up properly when open.

I blended on some green either side, fading to white in the centre, before adding the track over the top,

To finish, I used the MFT label maker sentiments and an Avery Elle Count On It number die, popping them up with foam tape.

I’ll add a die cut label at the back of the card for the birthday message.

I’m entering this card into the following competition:
