Spellbinders Guest Designer – Friends of a Feather

Today I’m sharing my third card as a guest designer for Spellbinders, showcasing the Perfect Match collection by Debi Adams.

My card today features the fabulous Friends of a Feather. I wanted to place the toucan in a tropical setting so teamed him with bright colours and lush foliage.

I began by blending some abandoned coral distress oxide to cover a piece of white card. I dried the ink with a heat tool, then used a stencil to add a sunburst effect with versamark ink and translucent pearl embossing powder. The embossing makes the colour darker, giving a lovely tone on tone effect.

Next, I stamped the toucan image and coloured him with copic markers. I die cut the image with the coordinating die, then added a larger die cut vellum piece behind. I used foam tape to adhere them together for some dimension.

For the sentiment, I stamped it on to vellum with versafine onyx black ink, then heat embossed it with the same embossing powder I used for the background. I cut the vellum into a banner piece and secured it behind the panel with some tape. I also used tiny dots of liquid glue behind the letters to adhere it to the front. I rounded the corners of the panel before adding it to a white card base.

To add some flowers and greenery behind the toucan, I used the Daisy 2 D-Lites set, die cutting from various colours of cardstock. I layered these flat on the card base with liquid adhesive, using some of the leaves to help secure the vellum banner some more. I added the toucan amongst the flowers and finished the card with some sparkling clear sequins.
