I love using patterns alongside negative space on my cards. By creating an area of colour or pattern, the negative space also becomes an area of its own. It can be the sky or the ground, for example, without there needing to be anything there to tell you what it is.

I’ve used this idea on my card today. I embossed the top two-thirds of my card with the Hello Bluebird In the Meadow background stamp, using WOW Metallic Gold Rich embossing powder.
To help separate the spaces, I added two thin strips of metallic gold pearlescent card. I then stamped a sentiment in the white space.

The sweet images are from the Hello Bluebird Picked For You and Tabitha stamp sets. I coloured them with copic markers, then added them to my card with foam tape. I love how easy it is to mix and match images from the different Hello Bluebird sets.
By adding the images to the card, the negative space now becomes the ground for them to stand on. The embossed pattern the wallpaper in a room.
