Creating with Digital Stamps

Today I’m excited to be guesting with Rachelle Anne Miller Creative Studios. I have two cards to share using the sweetest digital stamp, called Ballerina.

Rachelle Anne Miller has a wide range of digital stamps for sale in her online shop. Her illustrations have a wonderful storybook feel to them and are a joy to colour.

Advantages of Digital Stamps

If you are new to digital stamps, there are many advantages to using them:

  • Once purchased, you can receive or download the digital file almost immediately – no waiting for the post to arrive.
  • They don’t require physical storage space in a craft room, just space on your computer or cloud storage.
  • Files can be resized to suit your project. Bear in mind that enlarging an image can cause pixilation, so I’d only recommend sizing down from the original size.
  • The digital images from Rachelle Anne Miller are the perfect size for a standard card size (A6 in the U.K. or A2 in the US).
  • Flip the image before printing to create a mirror image.
  • Temporarily remove elements before printing, a bit like selective stamping a clear stamp but much easier.
  • I used Photoshop to edit the images before printing. If you don’t have photo editing software, don’t worry. The image can be resized and printed using something like Microsoft Word.

I printed the Ballerina image with an inkjet printer on to my usual white card. This is a heavy weight card that I use for my card bases and copic colouring.

As the ink from an inkjet printer isn’t a specialist stamping ink, the images can’t be easily coloured with water based mediums. I used my copic markers and they worked really well. You could also use colouring pencils.

I did let the images sit for a short while before Copic colouring, and I had no issues with the printer ink bleeding. The lines remained crisp, even when using very light copic colours which contain more of the blending solution.

Card 1

For my first card, I reduced the size of the image to 75% before printing.

I cut my panel down to A2 size, then added some stitching detail with the Lawn Fawn Just Double Stitching Rectangles die set.

I used copic markers to colour the image, then added details with a white gel pen and also a sparkle clear gel pen.

I adhered the panel to my card base, then stamped a sentiment from the Hello Bluebird Sparkles stamp set at the top. Underneath this, I added a die cut word from Hello Bluebird. I layered the die cut for dimension, with a pink glitter layer at the top.

For finishing touches, I adhered some Pretty Pink Posh jewels by the wand. I also covered the star wand and one of the hearts on her dress with Nuvo Glitter Drops in White Blizzard.

Card 2

For my second card, I temporarily removed some of the elements around the ballerina, before printing the image at 100%.

I also printed the image on printer paper. I used this to create a mask so I can ink behind the ballerina.

I cut my panel down to a landscape A2 size. I masked the ballerina image, then used masking tape to create an area around her. I blended on a rainbow of distress oxide inks – spun sugar, squeezed lemonade, tumbled glass and shaded lilac.

The distress oxide inks will fade out slightly the lines of the image that aren’t masked, but this happens with normal stamped images too. You can always go over these lines with a copic multiliner pen but I’ve left them as they are on this card.

I removed all the masking, then copic coloured the image. As with my first card, I added some stitching detail with the Lawn Fawn Just Double Stitching Rectangles die set.

I used the same stamp set and word die from Hello Bluebird on this card too. Then added similar finishing touches for lots of sparkle.

I hope I have inspired you to try digital stamps on your projects. Do check out the wonderful digital stamps by Rachelle Anne Miller Creative Studios.
