Spellbinders Essential Duo Lines Glimmer Squares

Today I’m sharing a card using the Essential Duo Lines Glimmer Squares set. I’ve been really enjoying making square cards recently and this set of 8 glimmer squares in different sizes is a great addition to any glimmer collection.

I took the largest of the glimmer plates in the set and used Polished Brass foil to add it to a piece of white card. I do find that large plates can sometimes benefit from a second foiling. I use the hinge method so I can redo any areas that didn’t foil properly the first time.

I used a trimmer to cut the square down. These glimmer plates coordinate well with the Spellbinders Essential Square dies, too. I then added a black pearlescent card layer behind, before adhering to a 4.75 inch square white card base.

I did some more foiling – this time with the Foiled Brushstrokes and Stripes Glimmer set. I foiled one plate 3 times with Polished Brass foil, to create the look of cake layers.

It’s possible to foil over the top of foil with different colours. I picked a sentiment from Yana’s Tiny Sentiments Glimmer set, and Black foil to show up over the Polished Brass.

I adhered the foiled cake to my card, using a couple of scrap card layers behind for dimension. I also added a solid foiled strip at the top, using another plate in the Foiled Brushstrokes and Stripes Glimmer set.

I had some foiled candles left over from another card, created using the Birthday Candle Background Glimmer set and Mini Rainbow Stripe foil. I adhered 5 candles on the top of the cake to finish.
